Up was one of the only summer movies of 2009 that I wasn't able to catch in theater. I've always been fascinated by the Pixar movies with the exception of the last one I saw in 2008, Wall-E which can be found on my list of the Top 5 worst movies ever. My brother and his fiancee have seen Up and told me that it was a disappointment. How could this be since the reviews have been mostly positive and there is even talk of Up being included in the Oscar Best Picture race? I just watched Up, and thoroughly enjoyed the film. A real touching story about an old man, Carl, with one more adventure left. With the exception of the annoying kid Russell whose voice over was nothing short of annoying, I liked all of the characters. You also know I have a critical ear for the music score. Although Michael Giacchino still hasn't wowed me yet with a music score, his work in this movie might be some of his best stuff to date. I wouldn't say this movie was better than the creme de la creme of Pixar movies in my mind (Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Cars, & Finding Nemo) or deserving of a Best Picture nomination, but Up was definitely a creative masterpiece and an entertaining film.

I saw "Up" when I was in theaters and REALLY enjoyed it. A very well-written story that appeals to both children and adults.
ReplyDeleteUp! was a great movie. Out of the movies Ive seen this year there are 3 that stand out: Star Trek, Inglorious Basterds and Up! Also Wall-E was great.
ReplyDeletePixar Movies
1-Wall-E
2-Up!
3-Toy Story 2
4-Toy Story
5-Finding Nemo
6-The Incredibles
7-Ratatouille
8-Monters Inc
9-Cars
10-A Bugs Life
You thought Wall-E was good? Was it because Ben Burtt did the voice? That movie was just not good. I still need to see Bug's Life but I would rank them in the following order:
ReplyDelete1- Cars
2- Toy Story
3- Toy Story 2
4- Finding Nemo
5- The Incredibles
6- Up!
7- Monsters Inc.
8- Ratatouille
9- Wall-E
Ha ha, has nothing to do with who did the voice. The movie is just flat out genius. And you are nuts, Cars is the most generic of the Pixar movies.
