MisenPOPic Music Lists (Part 2)

Top 50 Songs From Movies (Non-Instrumental) (A featured song in a movie can sometimes influence how great the movie really is.  There have been many great songs from movies to choose from so creating this list was very difficult.  Because I've always had a huge place in my heart for the movies of my childhood, you will notice a plethora of song from 80's movies. To be eligible for this list, the song had to be featured in a movie or at least appear on the soundtrack.  Songs that were already popular before appearing in a movie like Bohemian Rhapsody in Wayne's World were not eligible.  Remember, this is all subjective, and my opinion only!)

And The #1 Disney Song Of All Time Is...

Top 50 Golden Oldies (Thankfully, my father introduced pop music to me an such early age.  I was a sponge for information even back in my early youth, and absorbed a lot of great music from before my time thanks to my dad.   Paul Anka, The Beatles, The Four Tops, and many other music legends were brought to my attention when I was just three years old, and have stuck with me for a lifetime.  The following list ranks the 50 greatest songs from the 50's and 60's.  These are songs that I never get tired of even if I have heard them so many times over the past thirty years.  They are staples of my life, and are more melodic and beautiful than most of today's music.  Of course, this list is based purely on my opinion, but is a good representation of what I truly believe (as a music historian) to be the songs that will continue to be relevant for decades to come.)

Top 50 Songs Of The Seventies (The 50's and 60's might have been the genesis of pop music, but it wasn't until the 70's when the music scene really evolved with some really creative new concepts.  The 70's had it all: singer-songwriters, disco, funk, punk, album-oriented rock and roll, and ton of contemporary music.  There also was a lot of cheesy music during the decade which of course I love.  This list ranks the 50 best staples of the 70's AM Radio.  Classic hard rock songs from bands like Led Zeppelin or AC/DC or punk songs from bands like The Ramones and Sex Pistols were not considered for this list.  These fifty songs were all big hits of the 70's, nothing too obscure on here. These fifty songs best represent the 70's in my estimation, and not only does it reflect my greatest songs from this decade, but also the fifty songs I would select to best educate my kids about music from the happy decade.)

And the #1 Song Of The Seventies Is...

Top 50 Songs Of The Eighties (I have a huge place in my heart for music from the  80's.  It was during this decade that I developed my appetite for popular music and built the foundation for my appreciation of music history.  I would spend hours watching MTV, Friday Night Videos, American Bandstand, Solid Gold, and Casey Kasem's Top 10. My mom and dad made me a very happy young lad by purchasing 45s and cassettes for me.   Had I not been so impressed with this music at an early age, there absolutely is no way I could hear some of these songs today and not laugh my ass off.  Most of these songs have just stuck with me forever, and the fifty tunes on this list are ones in my mind that best represent the decade.  Since cheesy 80's tunes with simple melodies were my first real love, I've always remained passionate about them.  Any 80's song that I enjoyed later on in my adult life that I fell in love with while amassing my collection were not considered for this countdown.  Neither were any hard rock tunes or my favorite genre of music from the 80's, hair metal.  These are the fifty songs I feel best represent the decade and will be the first I will introduce to my child when I begin teaching him or her about music appreciation..  As always, this list is based on my opinion only!)

And The #1 Song Of The Eighties Is...

Top 50 Songs Of The Nineties (When rock music became angry thanks to the grunge movement, R&B began to lack melody, the rise of hip hop, and pop music seemed to missing a spark, I began to focus my energy more on the classics from the past.  Although I still listened to music and supported my favorite bands while also being introduced to the compact disc, I was more interested in collecting greatest hits and compilation albums of bands from my childhood instead of focusing on new music.  While at SUNY-New Paltz, a school with a music-friendly atmosphere, I wasn't really focused much on music except what was popular on the radio.  It wasn't until the following decade that I caught up on some of the other genres of music from the 90's like alternative and hip hop.  Again, no grunge rock, alternative, hip hop, ska, or heavy metal songs were eligible for this list, only radio staples of the era. This list reflects the best pop songs from the 90's, which in my opinion was probably my least favorite decade for music.  Remember this is my opinion only!)

And the #1 Song of The Nineties Is...

Top 50 Songs Of The 00's  (Music once again became my passion in the 00's, even more so since the decade began with some amazing pop songs on the radio.  But come the middle of the decade,  the pop music scene became less interesting and original.  I always believe there will continue to be some great pop songs, just not as many as were created in the past decades!  With a total change in the music industry where bands are marketed based on formulas and statistics instead of talent,  pop songs became too annoying with artists lacking any real talent having hit records thanks to the aid of new technology.  But enough ranting, here is the list of the best fifty songs from the 00's.  Hard rock, heavy metal, alternative, and hip hop songs were not eligible for the list.  The fifty songs were radio staples and in my mind best represent the past decade.)

Top 50 TV Themes (This list ranks the best TV theme songs of all time.  Aahh!, remember the good old days when your favorite sit-com or drama started  with a classic tune to get you pumped to watch?  Although there still are some great themes, many of today's shows don't even have an intro or they might include two seconds of an eerie sound like what we hear when we watch Lost or Flash Forward.  Mind you, this list of themes is not based on my actual favorite shows, but what I feel are the best TV themes of all time even if I was a fan of the show or not.  Considering I own almost 1,000 TV themes, I think my opinion might be somewhat valid)

Top 50 AC/DC Songs
(I've been an AC/DC fan since 1990, and truly believe they are the truest and greatest rock and roll band of all time.  There is no bullshit about them, they just want to rock & roll and don't get too involved with the business side of music.  You truly don't know what you are missing if you have never heard an AC/DC tune other than You Shook Me All Night Long.  Of course, I own all of their studio albums, live albums, and compilations, and because I adore Angus Young and the boys, here is my list of the top 50 AC/DC Songs.)
